Students who have not decided on a major are assigned to the Exploratory Studies Office, where they receive advice from their Student Success Navigator to select a major within four semesters. Once Exploratory Students decide upon a major, they are assigned an appropriate advisor from their major department or program.
National Pathways students are provisionally admitted to Miami University and are part of an exclusive student cohort on the Oxford Campus.
The goal of the Pathways program is to support full admission to Miami. While working with students, SSNs align first-semester courses with major requirements when possible. Due to the program's requirements, students intending to pursue majors that require specific sequencing for on-time graduation may be required to take additional courses after gaining full admission to Oxford.

Many Pathways students have a major declared upon entering Miami. Student Success Navigators advise these students during orientation to ensure they meet the Pathways requirements to gain full admission to the institution. After orientation, Pathways students with a declared major are strongly encouraged to meet with their major advisor early in the semester to be on track for graduation.
The Office of Exploratory Studies supports students not directly admitted to their program of choice to gain admission as current Miami students and explore other opportunities that align with their interests and academic and career goals.
