The Humanities

The Humanities offer a gateway to exploring the depth of human experience through dynamic research, hands-on internships, and interdisciplinary learning—fostering personal growth and opening doors to meaningful careers in business, healthcare, and more.

The Interdisciplinary World.

The humanities, social sciences, and natural/biological sciences are increasingly interconnected, creating an interdisciplinary framework that enriches both learning and application. Rather than existing in isolation, these fields inform and support one another—for example, ethical questions explored in philosophy shape responsible scientific research, while psychological and sociological insights guide the implementation of public health initiatives rooted in biology. This blending of perspectives encourages students to think across boundaries, approach problems from multiple angles, and develop innovative solutions that are both technically sound and socially responsible. As a result, students gain not just knowledge in a single field, but a versatile, integrative mindset that prepares them to thrive in collaborative, dynamic careers where complex challenges demand holistic understanding.

Humanities

Whether you’re tackling a world language, analyzing the origin of ancient texts, understanding how people consume various media, exploring the perspectives of global cultures, or even designing your own course of study, the humanities will guide you along a promising career path and sense of purpose. They also pair well with majors in business, science and technology, healthcare, and much more.

Engage in research with top-notch faculty and participate in numerous resources and events with the Miami University Humanities Center. Beyond our wide variety of study abroad opportunities, you’ll discover our popular “Inside” career-focused internships in Hollywood, Washington, New York, London, and Chicago, all of which provide the chance to network with successful Miami alumni.
