Better Together Week

UPDATE: Due to the social distancing measures that Miami University has implemented to help slow the spread of COVID-19, Better Together Week 2020 has been canceled. The information which appears below is now obsolete.

Miami supports Better Together Days, an annual event organized on colleges and universities across the U.S., headed by the national nonprofit organization Interfaith Youth Core. Students come together to learn about faith and meaning-making traditions other than their own, to identify common values, and to collaborate on community service projects.

Here at Miami, we will celebrate Better Together Week on April 5-11, 2020.

The 2020 theme for Better Together Week is Remembering Injustices: Cultivating Appreciative Understanding Across Worldviews.

Call for programs

Students are encouraged to submit proposals for service projects, events, workshops and programs for Better Together Week. Submissions are open until February 21. Funding requests can be made up to $1000 to cover the cost of marketing, food/drinks at event, humble honorariums for guest speakers.

All submissions are reviewed based on the following requirements: 

• Event should not engage in proselytization in any form in connection with the program/event.
• Event should not engage in any way in any conduct or practices that are exclusionary of (or exclusive of) any religious spiritual, or secular group in connection with the program/event.

Submit your proposal via Formstack. Your proposal should include:

• A brief description of how your program applies to this year's theme of cultivating appreciative understandings across religious, spiritual and secular worldviews.
• A detailed budget request with estimates for food or drinks and marketing (such as printed fliers, Facebook advertisements, etc.).
• Where you plan to host the event (on/off campus). Provide the building name and room name/ number if on campus. If your event location address is off campus, please provide address.
