Research and Community Engagement

Bringing research to practice. Acclaimed EHS faculty are constantly exploring and pushing the boundaries in their fields.

Faculty Areas of Focus

Although faculty members share individual expertise across the Division’s fields of study, there are core areas of focus shared by a number of faculty members where their teaching, research, and engagement are furthering the EHS mission to strengthen society in areas such as:

  • Advancing equity and justice in schools and communities
  • Preventing obesity and eradicating food deserts
  • Promoting awareness and advocacy for people with disabilities
  • Making sports more inclusive and accessible, including leading the development of e-sports and sport analytics
  • Supporting mental health awareness, education, and training among Ohio K-12 students and staff
  • Informing archival, capacity-building methods to support revitalization, preservation, and access to Indigenous languages

Undergraduate Research

Students and faculty within EHS continuously engage with critical issues facing children, schools, health, and society. Unlike many universities that reserve these opportunities for graduate students, Miami welcomes undergraduate student participation in meaningful research and promotes a supportive, forward-thinking, and innovation-oriented culture.
