Search Email Account

To check your email account for messages that were sent to your muohio.edu address, please use the following instructions:

  1. Open your Miami Google mail account through a browser (preferrably Google Chrome).
  2. Click the down arrow (Show search options) in the white Google search box at the top of the page.
  3. In the Search field, select the label (folder) you would like to search in, or select "All Mail".
  4. In the To field, type "uniqueid@muohio.edu". (If you used an alias email address, such as firstname.lastname@muohio.edu, you will want to search on that as well.)
  5. Take note of the results. You may want to contact the sender so they can update their records with either your MiamiOH address, or a personal email address.

New Content icon Update a Google Contact

There are times when you will want to change the email address of a contact that autofills when you begin composing an email message in Google. This is imporatnt when changing the address from muohio to MiamiOH. This could be for personal contacts, as well as listserv addresses. To learn how, please follow the instuctions below, or check out the complete instructions with graphics.

  1. In Google mail, hold down the Shift key and click Compose to begin a new message.
  2. In the To field, begin to type the name/email address. You will see that a list will start to form under your cursor.
  3. Select the name/email address from the list that you would to change. It will display in the To field.
  4. Hover your cursor over the name, and a Contact box will display.
  5. Click the Contact info link near the bottom of the box. The Contact page for that name/email address will display in your browser.
  6. Find the email address in the middle of the page.
  7. Delete the "muohio" from the address and replace it with "MiamiOH".
  8. Close the Contacts page by clicking the arrow next to Contacts and select Mail.
  9. Go back to your email message and delete the old address by clicking the "X" next to the email address in the To field.
  10. In the To field, begin typing the name/email address again. The newly updated address should appear in the list under your cursor.

Create a New Email Signature

You may want to create an email signature that informs your email contacts of the change to MiamiOH.edu. Example:

"Miami University has changed its domain to MiamiOH.edu. Please update my email address in your contact information to name@MiamiOH.edu. The former name@muohio.edu will soon stop being forwarded."
