Miami's game design program ranked highly in national lists

The Miami University digital game studies program is ranked in the top 30% of U.S. programs, public and private, by Animation Career Review.

Miami ranks No.16 nationally among schools offering an undergraduate degree related to game design.

Of all U.S. schools, Miami’s game design program ranks No. 41. Among public schools, it ranks No. 18. Miami’s program is No. 9 in the Midwest and No. 2 in Ohio.

“Our students gain a broad understanding of STEM, business and the arts, to then develop a deep expertise in a discipline of their choice,” said Bob De Schutter, C. Michael Armstrong Professor of Interactive Media Studies. “Through this unique profile, our students set themselves up to be innovators in but also beyond the game industry."

Animation Career Review provides information and rankings to professionals seeking schools, colleges and training programs in the animation, design and gaming fields. In September, Animation Career Review sent out surveys to 144 schools.

For the 2019 rankings, the following criteria was used:

  • Academic reputation

  • Depth and breadth of the program
  • Value as it relates to tuition and indebtedness
  • Geographic location
  • Employment data (new for 2019)
