Meet the ISSS Staff
This is a general overview of the orientation schedule for new international students. Specific schedule details according to your level/status (first year, transfer, ACE, exchange, or graduate student) will be sent to your MiamiOH.edu email address.
International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) is excited to welcome you to our campus! Here is some general arrival information:
If you need any support or have questions during your arrival and first few days on campus, you are encouraged to come to the MacMillan 017.
The International Student Center (MacMillan Hall, room 017) will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from August 17-August 27.
Orientation check-in will take place on Monday, August 21 from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Shriver Center, Dolibois Room.
To locate campus buildings, utilize Miami's Interactive Campus Map.
Review current on-campus dining hours of operation and off-campus dining options.
A Miami University ID will be needed to access many resources, including on-campus rooms, meal plan, library, recreation center, and more.
Those living on campus will need their ID before they enter their residence hall room.
Miami Digital ID is available at no cost to all students and employees, and beginning Fall 2023 it is the default form of ID for incoming students. After submitting your ID photo through the GET phone app, you can access your digital ID. Or, if needed, you can request a physical ID card from Campus Services Center.
If you arrive after 5 p.m. and have issues accessing your room, then please go to Marcum Hotel, located on campus, to request a temporary residence hall keycard.
Residents staying on campus prior to the start of the semester who need urgent assistance should call either the Miami University Police at 513-529-2222 or the Residence Life staff member on duty at 513-330-2005.

Saturday Shopping to Walmart
iPOLs can help students shop at Walmart for room necessities, groceries, or anything else that is needed. This is also a great opportunity to learn about BCRTA bus routes around campus and Oxford. Be careful to not miss the final bus back from Walmart!

Sunday Bus Trip to Walmart
Students have the opportunity to shop at Walmart for room necessities, groceries, or anything else that is needed. Buses will depart from the bus stop on Maple Street at 4:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m. Buses will return from Walmart at 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. Be careful to not miss the final bus back from Walmart!
In addition to this limited orientation shuttle, the Butler County Transit Authority (BCRTA) offers a bus route to Walmart. Review BCRTA routes and schedules

Bring a fully charged mobile device, digital ID and be ready for a full day of events. After confirming your arrival and collecting orientation materials, you are welcome to enjoy a complimentary breakfast together.

Welcome Session*
The International Student Orientation program begins with a welcome from International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) staff and International Peer Orientation Leaders (iPOLs). Students will receive an overview of the orientation program.

iPOL Tech Talk & Small Group*
Students will join together into small groups with their assigned International Peer Orientation Leader (iPOL) and peers. iPOLs will demonstrate how to navigate various Miami systems and make sure students complete required tasks.
Please check your Miami email af for the name and contact information of your iPOL.
Meet with your iPOL small group to learn more about life in Miami and discuss any questions or concerns that you have.

Family Lunch & Campus Tour
Parents and family members can meet with University staff to take a tour of campus and then enjoy lunch while learning more about the Miami experience. The Director of Parent and Family Programs will give a brief presentation and answer questions.

Information Sessions *
iPOLs will then help lead students with information sessions with campus partners.
The online modules in Canvas provided you with important information on these topics. This series of sessions will provide short refreshers along with the opportunity to connect with campus and community partners to ask questions related to the following topics:

President Gregory Crawford and Dr. Renate Crawford cordially invite you as a new member of the Miami University community to join them for a reception at their home. Due to limited space, no additional guests are permitted. Light refreshments will be served.

You should ask for a “TSPOT appointment for an international student.”)
You will meet with health care providers for a wellness assessment and required tuberculosis (TB) test. Clinicians will also help students to complete the immunization records form and schedule any immunizations or follow-up appointments if needed.

Arrival Document Check*
Please report to the Document Check location promptly at the time shared via your email and iPOL group communication.
International Student Advisers will be checking students' immigration documents to ensure that all documentation has been processed properly at the Port of Entry.
Make sure you completed the Arrival Confirmation & Document Upload e-form in InterLink prior to your scheduled document check.

Students who need to still complete placement should see schedule details in their personalized schedule and receive email with additional information.
Students who have completed the English speaking test over the summer may use this time to complete important tasks or meet with your iPOLs to tour campus. You may also choose to relax or set up your room!

Bus will depart from campus at 10:00 a.m., arriving at Kenwood by 11:00 a.m.
Then departing Kenwood at 2:00 p.m., arriving at Jungle Jim’s at 2:30 p.m.
Finally, departing Jungle Jim’s at 4:15 p.m. and arriving back to campus before 5:00 p.m.
