Non-business students are encouraged to pursue opportunities within the Farmer School of Business including minors, certificates, thematic sequences, student organizations, and study abroad. If you are seeking admission to the Farmer School of Business, please visit our Current Students Seeking Admission website.
A Farmer School of Business minor or certificate is an excellent complement to your primary major of study. FSB Minors open to non-business students include Accountancy, Arts Management, Business Analytics, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Human Capital Management and Leadership, Cybersecurity Management, Information Systems, International Business, Marketing, Real Estate, and Supply Chain Management. In addition, minors in Finance, General Business, and Management are available exclusively to non-business students. Visit the Minors page for more information.
Students may enroll in a maximum of two Farmer School of Business minors. Some minors are available to students on a first-come, first-served basis while others have entry restrictions or requirements. Therefore, to increase the likelihood of gaining entry into a FSB minor, interested students should contact the department offering the minor as early as possible in their academic careers. Completion of a FSB minor may require taking coursework during summer and winter terms and/or online.
FSB Certificates available to both business and non-business students include the Undergraduate Certificate in Foundations of Business Analytics, Healthcare Sales, and three Entrepreneurship Certificates with concentrations in Creativity, Social, and Startup Entrepreneurship. Completion of a FSB certificate may require taking coursework during summer and winter terms and/or online.
A thematic sequence is a nine-credit hour liberal education requirement that must be outside your department of major. All of the Farmer School of Business thematic sequences are intended for non-business students. There are sequences available in accountancy, business legal studies, economics, entrepreneurship, information systems & analytics, management, and Miami PRIME. Visit the Thematic Sequences page for more information.
Miami PRIME is an intensive four-week program designed to allow talented non-business students an opportunity to gain a clear advantage in today’s competitive job market. Students will be able to complement their educational background with a strong competency in the underlying principles of business. Visit the Miami PRIME website for more information.
Active and engaged learning starts in the classroom, but students must continuously sharpen and practice these skills. Student organizations provide the perfect place where students can lead teams, communicate with members, and solve complex problems.
