Residence Hall Services
We look forward to your arrival and are excited to be of service to you in the coming years! Summer is here, which is a great time to visit Oxford to experience the beautiful sights, peaceful atmosphere, and friendly smiles.
Please feel free to stop by the Office of Housing Options, Meals & Events in The Shriver Center during your visit to Miami. We are happy to answer any questions you may have. Contact us at home@MiamiOH.edu.
Cable TV
Standard cable (over 100 channels, including 24 HD) service is included. You must have a digital television or a digital tuner to receive the signal. For more info visit MiamiOH.edu/housing.
Housekeeping and Maintenance
Vacuum cleaners, mops, brooms and other cleaning supplies are available in each hall and can be checked out for your convenience. Residence hall corridors, lounges, and public bathrooms are cleaned by the housekeeping staff. Anytime you have a repair or maintenance problem, you can easily log in to your MyCard account (MiamiOH.edu/MyCard) to submit a repair request.
Kitchens
Since cooking is not permitted in student rooms, each hall is equipped with a small kitchen for the use of all residents. You may bring a microwave for your room as long as it meets these specifications:
a) maximum 7.5 amps/700 watts
b) the unit and the power cord must be UL approved
c) one unit per room
Please be aware that the only cooking allowed in student rooms is with a microwave.
Refrigerators and Air Conditioning
Each student room on campus is supplied with a university-owned refrigerator at no extra cost. While the majority of rooms on campus are air conditioned, a small percentage of them are not. To guarantee air conditioning, you must submit medical documentation to the Office of Housing Options, Meals & Events by May 15, 2015. Air-conditioning is not guaranteed when medical documentation is submitted after May 15, 2015. Private refrigerators and air conditioning units are not permitted. Non-air conditioned rooms will receive a $150 per semester rate reduction split between roommates.
Laundry Service
Many students take advantage of an optional student laundry service available to all on-campus students. For only $359 per semester, we’ll do your laundry. We provide you a laundry bag that holds approximately 20 lbs.; you fill it up and bring it to the laundry room on designated laundry days. Bags are picked up early in the morning, washed, dried, folded neatly, wrapped in plastic, and returned to your room. Students can sign up via their housing contract or by visiting MiamiOH.edu/MyCard.
If you prefer to do your own laundry, washers and dryers are available within each hall. Cost per load: wash $1.75, dry $1.75, and extra dryer minutes $.50. Students use their MUlaa account (debit account on ID card) at laundry facilities. All washing machines are high-efficiency and require high-efficiency detergent. Students can monitor the availability of washers and dryers by accessing WebCardCenter (MiamiOH.edu/idcard) via their computer. WebCardCenter will also send email or text messages informing the user when cycles are complete.
