New Student Checklist

To set incoming students up for success at Miami University, the One Stop has made a checklist of important actions they should take over the summer.

Your To-Do List

Add Authorized Users to Your Account

Students can grant access to their personal and academic records to anyone: parents, family members, guardians, or even a friend. Authorized individuals can access their student’s personal data at MiamiOH.edu/StudentInfo.

A family member or other individual can also initiate a request for access to the student’s account. An account will be established with the student’s consent. To learn more, visit our Share Access page.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records, both financial and academic. FERPA limits release of student record information without the student’s written consent; however, it also gives the student’s parent(s)/guardian(s) the right to review those records, without the student’s consent, if the parent(s)/ guardian(s) claim the student as a dependent on their Federal Income Tax Return.

Complete Health Insurance Waiver, if Already Covered

Student health insurance is provided by United Healthcare Student Health unless a waiver is completed. Information on the plan and how to submit a waiver can be found on Student Health Services’ Student Health Insurance page. Be advised that the waiver opens on June 1.

Submit Proof of Immunizations

Miami requires several vaccines and strongly encourages others. Incoming students must submit documentation as evidence of these immunizations. More information can be found on Student Health Services’ Immunizations page.

Submit Your Final High School Transcript

An official final transcript from your current high school is required to enroll at Miami.

If Miami doesn’t receive your transcript by its firm deadline, a hold will be placed on your student record that will prohibit you from registering for your next semester courses.

Official, final transcripts can be sent electronically from the institution to admission@MiamiOH.edu or mailed to the below address:

Miami University
Office of Admission
301 S. Campus Ave.
Oxford, OH 45056

Send in AP, IB, or CLEP Credits

Miami recognizes the following: AP (Advanced Placement), IB (International Baccalaureate), and CLEP (College Level Examination Program. Visit our AP, IB, and CLEP Credit page for information about how to send your credits to Miami.

Bookmark the Academic Calendar

Keep track of important dates and deadlines throughout the year by bookmarking Miami’s Academic Calendar.

The Academic Calendar covers class registration periods, add/drop periods, University closures, and much more.

Get Ready for Class Registration

Your advisor will help you register for your Fall Semester courses during orientation. Before that, we recommend you familiarize yourself with Course List, the General Bulletin, and Banner Self Service, where you can view courses.

Helpful information can be found on our Registration, Registration Tips (includes navigational videos), and Courses pages.

View Your Bill

Miami’s Fall Semester bill is typically posted in mid-July. Students, authorized family members, will also receive an email at this time.

You can visit the online payment portal to view the bill and make payments. For instructions on how to make online, in-person, and mailed payments, visit our Billing and Payment page.

Billing dates for the upcoming academic year can also be found on our Bill Due Dates page.

Set Up an Optional Payment Plan

Miami’s payment plans give families the option to budget each semester’s bill into monthly installments with zero interest and no credit check.

Payments can be deducted from a checking/savings account or charged to a credit card. Automatic payments are a convenient way to stay on top of your bills!

Enroll in RedHawk Refunds

RedHawk Refunds is a free, convenient service that provides a quicker way to access financial aid refunds, student account refunds, or other funds owed to you.

Your refund will be electronically deposited into your account at any bank in the United States within 24 to 72 hours after processing. No waiting 7 to 10 days for your refund to be issued by check!

Accept Your Financial Aid Offer

After receiving your Financial Aid Offer, review and complete the steps below to finalize your aid before the bill due date.

Complete Outstanding Financial Aid Requirements

First-time federal student loan borrowers must complete Entrance Counseling and the Master Promissory Note (MPN) by logging into StudentAid.gov with their FAFSA ID.

If you are a TEACH Grant recipient, you will have to also complete the TEACH Grant Counseling and Agreement to Serve.
