The Miami University graduate program in Educational Technology (M.Ed.) is intended to prepare K12 teachers (with licensure) in the design, development and meaningful integration of technology and media to enhance learning. This online program provides a curriculum designed to foster teacher development in the process of designing and integrating technology and digital media for valued added learning. This program is designed to support both novice and advanced users of technology with a focus on promoting the individual needs of each teacher and supporting each teachers practice. This program consists of 10 courses and may be completed in 12-14 months for full-time students. Part-time students are also very welcome. Students completing the program will also earn the Computer/Technology Endorsement. Embedded within the M.Ed. program is the Computer/Technology Endorsement.

This program is designed to:

  1. Prepare K12 teachers to design, develop, and integrate inclusive educational media, methods, and systems which integrate data-driven research in behavioral psychology, cognitive psychology, learning theories, constructivist, and critical/cultural theoretical perspectives of teaching and learning to meet the needs and diversity of 21st Century learners.
  2. Prepare K12 teachers to design, develop, and evaluate inclusive instructional media, materials, methods, and systems which integrate various types of technology and technology media for teaching and learning.
  3. Prepare K12 teachers to provide leadership in the inclusive design, development, evaluation, and selection of instructional media, materials, methods, and systems.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Design and develop inclusive instructional media, methods, and systems which integrate data-driven research in the diverse disciplines that inform instructional design.
  • Conduct analyses (needs, learner and task) for a learning environment and target learners for the purposes of informing the design, development, evaluation, and selection of instructional media, materials, methods, and systems to meet instructional design needs for target learners.
  • Design, develop, and evaluate inclusive instructional media, materials, methods, and systems which integrate various types of technology and technology media for teaching and learning to meet instructional design needs for target learners.
  • Develop formative and summative evaluations for models and methods of instructional design integrating emerging innovations in technology to meet instructional design needs for target learners
