Dr. Zhang's teaching interests include the emerging economies, economic geography, globalization, technology and social change, and China in the world.


Dr. Zhang is an economic geographer with a regional focus on China and East Asia. His research focuses on the geography and social change of the digital economy, the role of China in globalization, and the consumption space.

Currently, Dr. Zhang is working on the following topics: 1) social and spatial change in Chinese cities by the digital economy; 2) Chinese outward foreign direct investment to non-Western countries; 3) global store chains and the transforming consumption space in China.
