DataFest is a data analysis competition organized by the American Statistical Association (ASA) in which teams of students are given a large, rich, complex data set that is secret until the competition begins. Teams of students have the weekend to explore and analyze the uncharted data before finally presenting their findings to an open audience and a panel of judges.

Miami University's DataFest is hosted by the Center for Analytics and Data Sciences (CADS), a university-wide effort between the College of Arts and Science, the College of Engineering and Computing, and the Farmer School of Business bringing together the data science community.

Students work in teams of 3 to 5 undergraduates from Miami and regional Universities.

Students are assisted by graduate students, faculty, and working professionals, providing a great opportunity to network with fellow students and industry experts.

Judges from Cleveland Clinic, IBM, EY, Cardinal Health, Allstate, and P&G reviewed the final presentations for DataFest 2017. These industry experts were around for the weekend to assist teams and discuss analytics as it pertains to their industries.

Cash prizes were awarded to the winners:

  • 1st was awarded $1000
  • 2nd was awarded $750
  • 3rd was awarded $500
