Marcia Baxter Magolda, Ph.D. was recognized as a University Distinguished Professor in 2003. She was a professor in the Department of Educational Leadership for 30 years.

She received both her Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Arts degrees in Higher Education from The Ohio State University and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. Marcia has taught at Miami University for almost thirty years. She teaches courses on young adult development and research in the Student Affairs in Higher Education masters and doctoral programs. Her research addresses the evolution of learning and development in college and young adult life, with special attention to how educators can design teaching and campus involvement in ways that support student success. Marcia has interviewed a group of young adults for 25 years to trace their learning and development from the time they entered college to their mid-forties. She has written or edited nine books on this and related studies. Marcia received the Association for the Study of Higher Education Research Achievement Award, the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators’ Shaffer Award for Excellence as a Graduate Faculty Member, the American College Personnel Association’s Contribution to Knowledge Award, and Miami University’s Benjamin Harrison Medallion. She has also received Distinguished Alumni awards from Capital University and The Ohio State University
