2009 Recipient - Department of Political Science

Adeed Dawisha, Ph.D. is Professor Emeritus of Middle East Politics in the Department of Political Science. He specializes in Iraq's transition to democracy since the downfall of Saddam Hussein's government in 2003. He remains active in the field and has written articles for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, The International Herald Tribune and The London Times. I still follow the madness of that region, and am still willing to offer opinions (how considered is completely up to you to assess!). A couple of years ago, I turned to fiction; a far more sedate endeavor than my earlier intellectual pursuit. My first novel, THE PAYMASTER, a fast-paced thriller, is available in paperback and kindle at Amazon.com. I very much doubt a sequel is forthcoming. Instead, I am trying my hand at offering commentaries on matters of interest to me–politics, sports (especially soccer, college basketball and figure skating), and culture. I hope you find my ideas, reflections and analyses interesting, even engaging.
