A04 - How do Acute Experiences (ACES) in Children that Originate from Parents Lead to Lower Self-esteem and Higher Narcissitic traits?

Mentor: Carolyn Craig

The original ACE study was conducted at Kaiser Permanente, a healthcare organization, from 1995 to 1997 with two waves of data collection. The study was an effort by Dr. Vincent Felitti and the CDC to link childhood experiences to health problems and they started with an obesity clinic. It aimed to figure out the meaning of ACEs and the relationship between childhood abuse and household dysfunction. The exploration of ACEs and how they originate from the parents is important to understand because then we can begin looking for solutions and the percentage of self-esteem will increase while narcissistic traits will decrease. It also looks further into the parent-child relationship and how different types of parenting can also affect the outcome of a child. ACEs first became a topic of research interest in 1995, since then research has expanded to explore ACEs more broadly.
