B66 - Components of Anxiety
Mentor: Carolyn Craig
There are several studies and research that have been conducted on anxiety and the factors that develop such a feeling. Anxiety within 18-25 year olds is increasingly high due to the environmental, sociological and economic factors that go into being within that specific age range. People of that age can go to college, and get a higher education, but they also have to juggle being an athlete or switching to a new campus while also making sure they have friends along the way. 18-25 year olds might also live on their own or are trying to gain independence from their families. This can be extremely stressful especially if you come from a low income family or you haven't graduated from high school in order to get a paying job. Some people at this age have children and need to provide a steady life on such a low income making it stressful and anxiety inducing for the parents. People of this age range also like to believe they are invincible and never need sleep. That they can purely run off of caffeine as a whole. The brain needs sleep to function and without a functioning brain it is hard to control or get a grasp on whatever feelings of anxiety someone might be facing. Anxiety is a world-wide mental issue, and it's one that needs to be publicized and treated before it continues to increase exponentially.
