Why Miami?
I really appreciated the high-quality advising, both in my primary major and in the Honors College.
How did you choose your major?
I knew I had a passion for Spanish when I got to Miami, however I did not know that I was going to do a combined BA/MA student until my sophomore year. The faculty pushed me to shoot for the stars!
Key Moment at Miami
My Spanish professor José Domínguez-Búrdalo was the first professor to truly challenge my critical thinking abilities in a second language. His class was the hardest that I had taken up to that point (second semester freshman year), and now he is my graduate advisor and has pushed me to be the best student I can be!
Other Notable Experience
Studying and interning abroad in Spain for a semester allowed me to extend my language skills beyond the classroom. It also has shaped who I am as a person today. The opportunity to go abroad and engage in a workplace environment allowed me to see a side of Spanish culture that is not always accesible to students.
Advice to Prospective Students
If you are looking for a community of learners that both challenges and encourages you to be your best, Miami is the school for you!
What are your career goals?
I wish to apply for the Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship for the 2026-2027 cycle and gain experience teaching English as a second language to native Spanish speakers. After this, I plan to return to the United States for a couple of years as a public school teacher, and eventually pursue a Ph.D in Bilingual Education.
