I would say to go outside of your comfort zone when it comes to classes. I came to Miami undecided on a major, so I tried a variety of different classes my first semester. I enjoyed all of them, which is when my advisor introduced me to Organizational Leadership. I was able to find something that I love just by trying new things!

Peyton King, Advice to Prospective Students

Why Miami?

I chose Miami because it was the only place that felt like home. After visiting several different schools that did not feel like the right fit I felt discouraged until I attended Make It Miami. I immediately felt welcomed and knew that this was my place.

How did you choose your major?

I came to Miami undecided and found by major based on taking classes that interested me.

Key Moment at Miami

Since I came to Miami as an undecided major I was assigned an advisor in the exploratory studies department. Nancy Stewart was my advisor who inspired me throughout my time at Miami. She is the person who told me that I would be able to graduate in three years if I set my mind to it. She advised me all the way up until I made my final schedule. She was always there for when I had to ROR a class and even when I started getting my job acceptance letters. I am so grateful for all of the time and effort that she put into my college career.

Another Miami Moment

I was an intern for the Walt Disney Company. I had never lived outside of Ohio before so it was an amazing experience getting to live in a new place and work for such a large company. They inspired me to keep following my passion for the food and beverage industry.

What are your career goals?

After I graduate from Miami I will be the Unit Director for Waffle House Columbus. I have always been passionate about the food and beverage industry so I am excited to start my career!
