Our Vision
We envision a world where the arts are valued as an integral part of society and recognized for contributing to interdisciplinary problem-solving through creativity, empathy, critical thinking, and collaboration. We strive to uphold artistic skill sets, foundational skills in arts management, and entrepreneurship and innovation as the ideals for what it means to be an artist in the 21st century.
Miami’s Arts Management and Arts Entrepreneurship Program is rooted in interdisciplinary application and combines existing best practices in the field of arts management and administration with entrepreneurship and innovation allowing students to take control of their creative careers.
Our program is built on the foundational areas of arts management including Leadership & Governance, Mission Based Programming, Finance and Development, Marketing and Communications, Audience Development and Community Engagement, and Policy and Advocacy. Students master the necessary skills to apply the best in creative business practices
The program explores the role of the arts beyond the stage and studio preparing students to tackle global challenges using arts and culture as a catalyst for change. Students are prepared to join an interdisciplinary workforce that focuses on creativity, collaboration, and innovation at the heart of contemporary problem-solving. Students connect their creative artistry to emerging trends in arts and cultural creation including Arts for Social Change, Arts Sustainability, Arts Technology, Arts + Health, Creative Placemaking, S.E.A.D (Science, Engineering, Arts, and Design).
Arts Management and Arts Entrepreneurship, B.A.
The Arts Management & Arts Entrepreneurship major allows students to apply arts and business thinking to real-world arts business challenges in an increasingly competitive arts environment. Students will develop knowledge and skills to lead not-for-profit or for-profit enterprises in the creative economy. They will also gain an understanding of all the possible career opportunities in the arts and creative economy. The major is designed to maximize students' transferable skills so that they are able to navigate an uncertain future. Graduates are also well-equipped to pursue various graduate programs in the arts, business, entrepreneurship, and creative enterprise.
Learning Outcomes
- Identify the essential entrepreneurial and business functions in an arts or creative enterprise.
- Demonstrate progressing experimentation in one or more art forms.
- Demonstrate increasing proficiency in critical thinking, creative thinking, collaboration, and communication.
- Generate arts or creative enterprise projects that integrate arts, arts management & arts entrepreneurship, and business concepts.
- Create and design an innovative arts management &arts entrepreneurship portfolio that demonstrates learning.
