Core classes or projects
Most of my core classes and projects helped with my programming concepts. I did a program in San Francisco called the Digital Innovation Program. I lived out there and got to intern. I did it with other female students, which was great. There were a lot of networking opportunities. I also joined organizations like Engineers Without Borders and worked on a project with the local institute of food, which was really nice.
Extracurriculars that shaped experience
I did Startup Weekend. I spent the weekend creating a startup with about seven other students. I handled most of the software development while others did the design work.
Why Miami
I was impressed with the professors. It was just a bigger opportunity.
Advice for students
Take advantage of the career fair and talk with your professors. I made a friend who helped me find out about the San Francisco trip. Also, build your LinkedIn profile. I got my first software engineering internship on LinkedIn during my sophomore year.
