Through my summer internship, I was able to establish a relationship with Georgia Pacific. And then at the career fair that fall, I went to their booth and they remembered me and offered me a job. I was with them for seven years. So definitely get an internship, even if it's just to get a better understanding of what your day-to-day life is going to be when you're all grown up and out in the real world.

Internship experience

I secured an internship with Georgia Pacific after interviewing at a student summit in Savannah. It was a pivotal experience that bridged the gap between classroom theory and the real world, giving me a clear understanding of day-to-day life as an engineer. That single summer established a professional relationship that led directly to a job offer, and I happily stayed with the company for seven years.

Relationships built on campus

Finding the Quidditch (now called Quadball) club was how I found my people. It was a lovely, inclusive group that became my closest circle of friends throughout college. We bonded over shared interests, traveled for tournaments, and embraced being "nerdy" together in the best possible way. Having that foundation of friends who genuinely enjoyed the same things helped shape who I am and introduced me to hobbies I still love today.

Because of Miami

Because of Miami, I discovered a career path I didn't even know existed. I started in microbiology, but a chance elective introduced me to the Paper Engineering program, which completely changed my trajectory. Miami offered the perfect balance large enough to provide incredible niche opportunities, but small enough to feel like a supportive community where I could truly figure out who I wanted to be.
