A New Path to a Miami Nursing Degree

Beginning in fall 2027, Miami University will offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in the Cleveland area — the Miami Northeast Ohio Nursing Cohort Program.

Recognizing the growing need for nursing workforce across Ohio, Miami is excited to offer this accredited nursing program in a year-round format with healthcare partners in northeast Ohio, including Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED).

Students entering the program must meet established Nursing pre-requisites and should have started their coursework to complete the Ohio Transfer 36 (OT36) curriculum.

Upon entering the program, students will take their Nursing core requirements in Cleveland with Miami University faculty and will experience clinical placements in northeast Ohio health systems, including NEOMED and Cleveland Clinic.

Miami’s northeast Ohio healthcare partnerships blend the academic strength of the university with the clinical excellence of major healthcare hubs. Students receive a strong liberal arts foundation before entering intensive, real-world training.

About the Program

How does the Northeast Ohio Cohort work?

The northeast Ohio pathway offers two ways for students to enter the nursing program  direct admission from high school or admission through a transfer pathway. Before starting the program, students must complete all Miami Plan requirements and required nursing prerequisite courses. These courses may be taken through a combination of OT 36 credits, College Credit Plus (CCP), or Miami online courses.

Once admitted, students complete the nursing curriculum in a continuous 24-month sequence that includes summer terms, allowing for a focused and efficient path to program completion.

Will I be considered a Miami University student the entire time?

Yes. You will remain a Miami University student from start to finish. Your degree is awarded by Miami University, with the added benefit of clinical training through our partnerships with premier healthcare systems.

Will my degree say Miami University?

Yes. Your diploma will be awarded by the Miami University School of Nursing.

What are the tuition and fees associated with the Northeast Ohio Nursing Cohort? Am I eligible for financial aid if I pursue this program?

Tuition and general fees for the Northeast Ohio Nursing Cohort are $500 per credit hour. Additionally, each semester you enroll you will be assessed a $200 Nursing program fee for facilities, faculty, and clinical site support of the program. A student can expect that total tuition and fees will be assessed at around $18,600 per calendar year or $36,200 over the two-year period. Books, materials, and other supplies as well as housing, food, and of other costs of attending are not included in this tuition and fee assessment.

Like all Miami programs, students participating in the Northeast Ohio Nursing Cohort program are eligible to participate in federal aid programs, if applicable. Students must complete a FAFSA to determine eligibility for federal financial aid.

What are the admission criteria for the program? Are they different from the program offered in Oxford?

Admission criteria for the Northeast Ohio Cohort will be the same as those for the Miami Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree programs. Admission to the program is competitive. Learn more about minimum admission requirements.

What if I cannot take all of the Nursing prerequisites or OT36 coursework through College Credit Plus or a local community college?

Miami University will offer limited seats in the chemistry and microbiology courses in person at our Cleveland facilities for students who are unable to complete the requirements prior to enrollment. Other OT36 or Miami graduation requirements can be taken through Miami Online, as needed, once you have enrolled in the program.

Clinical Experience

What areas of nursing (e.g., pediatrics, emergency, intensive care) will I get exposure to?

You will rotate through a variety of departments — from acute care to community-based settings — giving you a broad perspective and helping you discover where you may want to specialize.

Location and Logistics

Where in northeast Ohio will I be based?

Courses will be offered at Miami University’s Cleveland hub with clinical experiences at health systems in Greater Cleveland and rotations at multiple hospital and clinic sites.

Will there be housing options or support for students relocating?

No university housing is available, but Miami works with other higher education institutions in the region to identify student-friendly housing opportunities to recommend to students in the Cohort.

Can I live at home and commute to clinicals if I’m from the area?

Absolutely. The ability to reduce living expenses while in college is a benefit of Miami’s Northeast Ohio Nursing Cohort.

Will there be Miami faculty, advisors, or student services available there?

You will have a Miami Nursing academic advisor and have full access to Miami student services.
