Business Analytics
Description
Data now drives decisions in every industry, function, and role, from marketing and finance to operations and healthcare. Employers expect employees at every level to interpret data, question assumptions, and act on evidence rather than intuition alone. Business Analytics sits at the intersection of statistics, information systems, and computer science, using machine learning and artificial intelligence to turn data into insight. Students learn to work with data, build and evaluate predictive models, and communicate findings that drive decisions in data-rich environments. Graduates leave with data fluency, critical thinking skills, and hands-on experience with emerging tools like AI-assisted analysis. The major works well on its own or as a second major paired with virtually any field of study, sharpening the skills employers value most, regardless of career path. This program will provide a framework for thinking about the collection and use of so-called "big data" and students will develop skills for handling structured and unstructured data sets and for developing models to predict behavior in data-rich environments. The analytics track is truly interdisciplinary and provides a framework for thinking about the collection and use of data that will complement the pursuit of any major across the university.
