Finance Minor

Description

The Finance minor provides in-depth study of financial management and introduces financial topics of current importance. The courses provide financial management tools and techniques relevant both to corporate finance and investments. This minor allows you to develop and integrate numerous skills and techniques relevant to modern finance.

Minor Information

  • 30 graded hours and a 2.5 cumulative GPA are required to declare
  • All Minor coursework must be taken at Miami University
  • Open to non-business majors only
  • You must have a 2.00 GPA for all courses in the minor
  • Students may not minor in both Real Estate and Finance
  • Enrollment is limited to 100 students; seats in this minor are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis
  • Refer to the 2025-2026 General Bulletin for course pre- and/or co-requisite information

Program Requirements

  • ACC 221 (3) - Introduction to Financial Accounting
  • ECO 301 (3) - Money and Banking
  • FIN 301 (3) - Introduction to Business Finance
  • FIN 303 (3) - Financial Principles and Introduction to Modeling with Excel
  • FIN 401 (3) - Principles of Investments and Security Markets
  • Select three hours of the following:
    • FIN 381 (3) - Intermediate Financial Management
    • FIN 402 (3) - Fixed-income Portfolio Management
    • FIN 403 (3) - Portfolio Management
    • FIN 408 (3) - Commercial Bank Management
    • FIN 417 (3) - International Business Finance
