Dear fellow Miamians,
Character, leadership, and service are at the very core of our values at Miami – they are visible expressions of what it means to live Love and Honor in our community. This is a special place with a distinct legacy, a unique mission, and a deep responsibility. Miami has a rich heritage of student involvement and campus leadership. One of our oldest and most revered traditions of student engagement is Fraternity and Sorority Life.
To many, joining a fraternity or sorority is an excellent opportunity for personal growth, servant leadership, academic success, and a sense of responsibility to serve our community with a higher purpose. Many of our extraordinary alumni attribute their success to Greek life experiences, especially the values their fraternity or sorority instilled in them.
As you experience campus life during the first semester and beyond, you will find many ways to engage and lead. We have nearly 600 student organizations, including 52 fraternities and sororities, each offering unique and dynamic experiences. Please take every opportunity to explore how these groups and organizations can enhance your journey at Miami and beyond. Think about how, through your participation and membership, your life and the lives of others will be enriched and transformed in positive ways. Find and engage with those who will challenge you, stretch your mind, expand your perspective, develop your virtues such as courage, empathy, and humility, awaken your delight, and deepen your love for Miami.
If you choose to participate in Fraternity and Sorority Life, look closely at these organizations’ core foundations, values, and virtues and note their alignment with Miami’s Code of Love and Honor. Hold yourself and your fellow Miamians to the highest standards of excellence in all that you do. Hold true to Love and Honor and our shared dedication to serving a higher purpose. You will see the quote on campus: “To think that in such a place, I led such a life.” Embrace both the incredible benefits of this
life and the responsibilities that come with membership in these special communities and the greater community of the Miami family.
I wish you all the best.
Love and Honor,
