Why Miami University?

Miami University offers a phenomenal curriculum, with resources and opportunities where I knew I would thrive.

How did you choose your major?

I knew from a young age that I wanted to enter a field where I could serve and make a meaningful difference within the community. Through the applied courses at Miami, networking opportunities, and research, I explored and honed my interests along the way. I also gained fundamental knowledge and skills throughout the journey that I am excited to carry with me into my graduate studies and into my field.

Please list the groups, clubs, jobs, etc. that you were/are involved with.

I’m a member of the Miami University Psi Chi chapter.

As a Miami student, what are some of your awards and accomplishments?

In Spring 2025, I received the Excellence in Research Award from Miami University’s Social and Behavioral Sciences department. At the 2026 AURCO Conference in Celina, Ohio, alongside Madison Roberts, we placed runner-ups in our poster presentation on student learning. I've also been named to the President's List and Dean's List multiple semesters, and am a member of Psi Chi. I am very thankful for all of these opportunities.

Did you have any special experiential learning opportunities that have influenced you in a positive way?

Outside the classroom, my role as a research assistant in Dr. Elliot Jardin's Brain Health and Cognitive Aging Lab has been incredibly influential. During my time in the lab, I have worked alongside Madison Roberts and Dr. Jardin to investigate whether a dedicated video series that teaches students how to learn can boost their perceived learning competence. Additionally, we have investigated burnout across regional university professors in Ohio. I have had the opportunity to attend two AURCO conferences, with the second one placing as a runner-up, and I am very thankful for these experiences. I have also served as a teaching assistant in a cognitive psychology course, which honed my passion for education and the brain. Outside of Miami, I serve as an advisor for NAMI Next Gen Montgomery County, where I collaborate with committee members to develop youth mental health awareness initiatives to help break down stigma for generations in our community. All of these experiences have significantly shaped who I am and what I am passionate about as I near graduation from Miami University, and I am so thankful to all who have supported and mentored me along the way.

What are your plans after you graduate from Miami? What sort of career are you aiming for? What is your dream job?

After I graduate from Miami, I will attend Ohio State University's Master of Social Work (MSW) program (online) and work toward becoming a licensed social worker (LSW). Ultimately, I hope to work with populations impacted by trauma and other vulnerable groups, helping them access the support they need to heal and thrive. My dream is to pursue a DSW or a PhD in Social Work to expand competency and impact.

Advice to Prospective Students

If I had the opportunity to talk to a student considering coming to Miami, I would tell them that it is worth it. There are so many different courses and organizations, which means so many different opportunities! The resources on campus, including Career Services, Tutoring, and advising, all help lead you to success. For new students, I recommend getting involved early! I know it feels intimidating at first, but try to embrace the discomfort, you might meet your best friend in the process (like me!)

Is there anything else you'd like to share about your Miami experience that we didn't cover?

Huge shoutout to the entire Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Miami University! The support, mentorship, and opportunities I have received have made all the difference, and I am so grateful!
