Become a more effective communicator through the new Miami Writing Institute — a free program for Miami staff, faculty, and alumni

Continuing its popular professional education series, which launched last year with the miniMBA, Miami University is offering a new program, the Miami Writing Institute (MWI). The online program begins Jan. 24.

Miami University President Gregory Crawford initiated and funded the development of this institute, recognizing the importance of writing at Miami. The career-enhancing opportunity equips Miami alumni, staff, and faculty to be effective and ethical communicators.

Miami’s Roger and Joyce Howe Center for Writing Excellence (HCWE) created the institute to tackle a topic that permeates every aspect of our professional and personal lives – writing.

The four-part, self-paced program allows you to work at your own pace to complete the course at your convenience. Short activities will include short scenario questions and knowledge checks. Longer quests will guide you in analyzing cases, texts, and examples from your own life.

Elizabeth Wardle, director of the HCWE, said the MWI “truly does not have a parallel anywhere else in the market.”

Participants must register by Jan. 20 and complete the program by May 14.

Registration for the MWI will open to a wider audience of learners in Summer 2022.

  • Not a Miami alumnus, faculty, or staff, but interested in Summer 2022 enrollment? Fill out the MWI interest form, for notification once wider enrollment opens.
