Swine City Brewing, Miami University announce pair of beverages to support RedHawk student-athletes

Swine City Brewing and Miami University are collaborating on a pair of beverages that will benefit Miami and its student-athletes.

The 1809 Bohemian Pilsner and RedHawk Razz Raspberry Lemonade Hard Seltzer will debut Oct. 26 at Miami athletic venues when Miami football hosts Central Michigan at Yager Stadium and ice hockey hosts Lindenwood at Goggin Ice Center.

Geared toward Miami alumni, the beverages will continue to be available at Miami ticketed sporting events, as well as at the Swine City Taproom in Fairfield.

Dan Ebben, owner of Swine City Brewing, described the beverages as a Bohemian-style pilsner and refreshing, crisp raspberry lemonade, respectively.

“The creativity and collaboration pays homage to the university itself, and we’ve worked to create something that alumni especially will enjoy as they toast the love and honor of their Miami days,” Ebben said.

The RedHawk Razz Raspberry Lemonade Hard Seltzer packaging will include a collage of Miami imagery, while the 1809 Bohemian Pilsner will feature the university’s iconic Pulley Tower.

Swine City Brewing has connections to Miami beyond this upcoming collaboration. The company has been a concessions provider for university sporting events since 2023, and co-owner Claire von Saucken ’92 attended Miami and majored in Political Science.

A Miami Merger with Sylvius von Saucken ’91, Claire von Saucken has many fond memories of Miami – including time spent at football and hockey games.

“If I was at Miami, I went to the hockey game,” Claire von Saucken said.

“My husband and I, being a Miami Merger, are particularly thrilled for this opportunity. I could not be happier. When I found out this was a possibility, I said, ‘We need to do this.’”

Swine City Brewing initially began selling seltzers at Oxford’s Farmers Market.

“We like the relationships we’ve developed with not only the university but with the surrounding communities,” Ebben said. “The Farmers Market showed us what the university is about. It really brings a lot of people together.”

A portion of sales from the two beverages will benefit Miami students through scholarships, as well through student-athlete support and initiatives centered on the responsible use of alcohol.

The goal and focus of alcohol education at Miami is to prepare students to make legal, low-risk choices about drinking during college and in the future. The 1809 Bohemian Pilsner and RedHawk Razz Raspberry Lemonade Hard Seltzer are brewed for and marketed to adults over the age of 21.
