Winners announced in the 2025 Miami University Young Painters Competition for the $10,000 Yeck Award
Winners of the 2025 Miami University Young Painters Competition for the $10,000 William (Miami '36) and Dorothy Yeck Award were announced at a reception for the 10 finalists Feb. 7 in Hiestand Galleries.
The winners were selected by competition juror and artist, Alexis Rockman, at the February 7 reception in the Hiestand Galleries,
This national competition for artists ages 25-35 celebrates the current trends in contemporary painting. The 2025 competition focused on representational paintings. The work of all 10 finalists are on view at the Hiestand Galleries through March 14.

2025 Young Painters Competition award winners
Brach Tiller of Detroit, Michigan won the 2025 Miami University Young Painters Competition and $10,000 for his painting “Old Soles, 2024 ” (oil on canvas). Tiller received his MFA in 2021 from the Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BFA from Bowling Green State University in 2016. HIs work has been exhibited in galleries including Half Gallery in New York City, Martha’s Gallery in Austin, and Art Basel Miami Beach, among others.
Maddie Hinrichs won $2,500 and second place for “TIXE, 2023” (oil and embroidery on canvas). Hinrichs received her MFA in 2021 from the University of Albany and her BFA from the University of Lincoln-Nebraska in 2019. She is gallery specialist at the Lux Center for the Arts.
Amy Yeager of Bloomington, Illinois won $2,000 and third place for “Midsummer Driveway, 2024’ (gouache on watercolor ground on panel). Yaeger received her MFA in 2023 from Illinois State University and her BA in Scientific Illustration in 2017 from Clark University. She is a curator at the McLean County Arts Center in Bloomington.
