Bark in the Park will once again have a Miami connection

Ivy, Miami University President Gregory Crawford, Newton, and University Ambassador Dr. Renate Crawford will throw out the first pitch during the Cincinnati Reds' Bark in the Park event on April 30.
Ivy and Newton are rounding the bases and heading to Great American Ball Park for a return engagement.

Miami University’s presidential pups will again be part of the Cincinnati Reds’ Bark in the Park on April 30. Miami President Gregory Crawford and University Ambassador Dr. Renate Crawford will be there too to help deliver the first pitch as the Reds take on the St. Louis Cardinals.

Game time is 6:40 p.m. and tickets are available.

“We had a great time representing Miami University at last year’s Bark in the Park event,” Renate Crawford said. “It is always fun to be a part of events like this in our community. As dog lovers, we also relish the opportunity to bring Ivy and Newton to special outings.”

This is the first of four scheduled Bark in the Park events at Great American this season. The others are on June 17, July 7, and Sept. 18.

A lifelong baseball fan and native of Ohio, President Crawford is eager to root on the Reds again this year. During last year’s event, President Crawford made the ceremonial toss to home plate, which was then retrieved by Newton.

“It was a personal thrill to throw out the first pitch for the Cincinnati Reds a year ago,” President Crawford said. “We are very much looking forward to being there again and cheering on the Reds.”

President Crawford was at nearby Paycor Stadium last month as the university and the Cincinnati Bengals announced an educational partnership that made Miami the Official University of the NFL franchise.

Jeff Berding, president and co-CEO of FC Cincinnati, will deliver the keynote address at Miami’s spring commencement on May 17 at Yager Stadium. Berding, a 1991 Miami graduate, spent more than 19 years as an executive with the Bengals before helping drive the launch of the city’s popular soccer team.

“We are fortunate to have such strong relationships with Cincinnati’s professional sports franchises,” President Crawford said. “They are all first-rate organizations, rooted in history with a unique connection to their community. We are always thrilled when we have a chance to interact with the Reds and their terrific fanbase.”

When reached for comment, Newton added, “Ruff, ruff, ruff.”
Established in 1809, Miami University is located in Oxford, Ohio, with regional campuses in Hamilton and Middletown, a learning center in West Chester, and a European study center in Luxembourg.
