New bus routes are coming to campus this fall, shaped by feedback from the Miami community on the Butler County Regional Transit Authority’s (BCRTA) ‘Public Comment-Oxford Routes for Fall 2025’ survey earlier this spring.

These new routes focus on convenience and will be more direct, according to BCRTA. New routes coincide with the opening of the Chestnut Street Station, which will become the central hub for updated routes. It is expected to open by September.

Chestnut Street Station, a multimodal transportation center at 97 W. Chestnut St. that broke ground in January 2024, will provide public amenities including:

  • Comfortable indoor waiting areas with WiFi and charging
  • Public restrooms
  • Real-time bus arrival signage
  • Reservable community room

"BCRTA's new multimodal station and updated routes — which shift from long loops to more direct service — will make it even easier to ride the bus in Oxford," said David Prytherch, co-chair of the Sustainability Council's Transportation Working Group and Professor of Geography, "moving Miami closer to our climate goals."

These efforts — along with the City of Oxford’s Bike-Pedestrian Master Plan currently in development — may help reduce carbon emissions related to campus commuting. This is an important part of the Miami 2040 Climate Action Plan, according to Susan Meikle, a lead writer of the plan.
