As many of our cultural institutions stand at a crossroads of change and opportunity, higher education remains uniquely positioned as a powerful engine for progress and public good.

The true value of college extends beyond classrooms and career paths to also include the transformative ideas, research, and community connections it sparks across society.

In Such a Place,” a new podcast from Miami University, is where these possibilities unfold.

Hosted by Miami University President Gregory Crawford, “In Such a Place” features in-depth conversations with the leading voices who are making social, cultural, and technological contributions across today’s modern world.

Every episode also ties into the podcast’s broader mission: to explore the future of higher education as an enduring and evolving cultural institution that has an enriching influence on the people, practices, and places that extend beyond university borders.

“This podcast gives the Miami community a platform to share thought leadership, discuss groundbreaking research, and engage in meaningful, community-focused conversations,” Miami President Gregory Crawford said. “I’m excited to explore a wide range of topics that contribute to the value and evolution of higher education and its impact on society.”

Current episodes cover a variety of timely topics, including advances in neuroscience that are unraveling the mysteries of the human brain to the collaborative efforts between universities and communities that improve the ways we live and work.

The most recent episode addresses the mental health crisis among school children with a conversation featuring Cricket Meehan, Miami University’s executive director of the Ohio School-Based Center of Excellence for Prevention & Early Intervention, and director of the Center for School-Based Mental Health Programs.

“It was an honor to be a guest on this new podcast series,” Meehan said. “Podcasts are a great way to build awareness of the innovative work that our faculty and staff are engaging in, and to showcase how that work is having a positive impact. Podcasts can build excitement and inspire people to think differently about important topics. As faculty and staff listen to this series, new ideas will be sparked, new connections will be made, and innovative partnerships will be established.”

Upcoming episodes will delve into how university research solves real-world problems, explore the transformative potential of quantum computing, examine how historical nationalism has shaped current American identity and global policy, and much more.

Today, higher education remains a crucial pathway for students pursuing rewarding careers and personal growth, and for communities striving for civic vitality and economic resilience.

“In Such a Place” pulls back the curtain on how universities serve as catalysts for these aims, offering a compelling look at how higher education is confronting the most urgent challenges of our time, while also embracing the most promising opportunities ahead.
