Miami’s inaugural International Leadership Conference set to empower students to create a better future

The inaugural International Leadership Conference is Oct. 3-4 at Miami University.

All Miami University students are invited to step into an inspiring, hands-on opportunity to tackle today’s most pressing challenges alongside influential leaders from around the world.

On Oct 3-4, the inaugural International Leadership Conference comes to the Marcum Hotel and Conference Center to focus on the principles of human-centered leadership. By participating in interactive case studies and real-world problem-solving, students will be able to strengthen their leadership skills and collaborate directly with current leaders on prominent issues.

Keynote speakers and key leaders of workshops will include:

  • Lt. Gen. Richard M. Clark – Executive Director, College Football Playoff; former Superintendent, US Air Force Academy
  • Stephanie Byrd ’81 – Regional CEO, American Red Cross of Central and Southern Ohio Region
  • Rep. Warren Davidson, Ohio 8 Congressional District
  • Hajime “Jimmy” Kishimori – Japanese Consul General (Detroit)
  • Brigadier General Matthew S. Woodruff – Assistant Adjutant General of the Ohio National Guard
  • Jen Miller – Executive Director, League of Women Voters in Ohio

Workshops will cover such topics as cyberthreats and leadership in a digital world, global career competencies, strengthening community impact through civic engagement, fighting human trafficking, leadership in healthcare, solving the challenge of modern supply chains, harnessing AI to enhance security, and much more.

"The College of Arts and Science is proud to be one of the key sponsors of the International Leadership Conference, which aligns with our CAS Means Careers initiative," said Renee Baernstein, dean of CAS. "The conference is an ideal opportunity for students across Miami to engage with world leaders and elevate their own leadership potential, whatever their career ambitions may be."

"We have assembled an incredible array of world leaders from across various disciplines to share their advice and experiences with Miami students," said Lt. Col. Robert Umholtz, director of Miami's Air Force ROTC program (Detachment 640). "We strongly encourage students to register to take advantage of this transformative opportunity and continue Miami's strong legacy of building leaders."

Students who register and attend at least one keynote and two workshops will receive some fun promotional items as well as an official digital leadership badge.

The International Leadership Conference is sponsored by Air Force ROTC Det 640, the College of Arts and Science, Office of the President, Office of the Provost, and Division of Student Life.
