Refreshed mascot costume makes its debut during Family Weekend football game
Olympus Mascots helped Miami revitalize Swoop’s gear
Fans will see a refreshed RedHawk during the Family Weekend football game this Saturday as Miami University unveils its first updated mascot costume design in over 15 years.
“It’s the same iconic Swoop look we all know and love, recharged and energized just in time for Family Weekend,” said David Sayler, Miami’s Director of Athletics. “This is the perfect time to debut the latest costume to give our fans – and our athletes – an additional boost.”
Miami football is in the midst of a four-game winning streak as the RedHawks face Western Michigan at Yager Stadium with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
The current Swoop mascot costume was introduced during Miami’s home game against the University of Cincinnati on Sept. 15, 2007. Miami Athletics and University Communications and Marketing collaborated with Olympus Mascots to bring this latest iteration of Swoop’s getup to life. After starting its mascot division in 1965, Olympus Mascots has created more than 17,000 costumes for mascots in athletics, schools, nonprofits, and more.
The new costume is designed to be sturdier, better ventilated, and more flexible for use at different events. With Swoop active and engaged at Miami and beyond, the attire will better meet the needs of the growing number of events across campus and within the community.
More Swoop designs are on the way, too, this time across Miami’s digital and physical spaces. These new sport-specific illustrations will be revealed throughout the year on digital media, merchandise, and apparel as Swoop embodies Miami’s student body and the excitement of Division I athletics.
Fans can interact and take photos with Swoop during Saturday’s game. Tickets are available online.
