Special uniforms to honor Miami’s Cradle of Coaches
Football team debuts new look on Nov. 12, which extends to other RedHawk teams throughout the year

Special uniforms to honor Miami’s Cradle of Coaches
The RedHawks will trade their traditional red and whites for a special uniform celebrating the university’s fabled Cradle of Coaches timeless tradition of leadership and excellence in sports. Both the jersey and pants feature red, white, and gold stripes, while the red Miami helmet sports a new gold face mask. The helmet also features a throwback arched block “MIAMI” that was used from the 1920s through the 1970s across multiple sports.
“Miami has long been home to the Cradle of Coaches, legendary figures who set the gold standard in the game of football,” said David Sayler, Miami’s director of Athletics. “We are honored to pay tribute to their legacy with these very unique uniforms.”
Fans are encouraged to wear black Miami gear to the 7 p.m. kickoff at Yager Stadium as the RedHawks face Mid-American Conference foe the University of Toledo. Tickets are available, and the game will be broadcast on ESPN2, ESPNU, or CBSSN.
While the Cradle of Coaches uniform makes its debut in football, other Miami sports will follow suit with the distinctive look throughout the athletic calendar.
The Cradle of Coaches plaza is located at the south end of Yager Stadium and is home to bronze statues displaying the likenesses of Miamians Paul Brown, Weeb Ewbank, Paul Dietzel, Ara Parseghian, John Pont, Carm Cozza, Bo Schembechler, Red Blaik, John Harbaugh, and Sean McVay.
An initial gift from Kurz and his wife, Marian, helped establish the plaza, while a gift from the family of Thomas Van Voorhis helped make the area at the south end of Yager Stadium a reality. A statue of Van Voorhis can be seen outside the gates leading to the plaza.
Over the years, Miami has routinely inducted coaches across all sports into the Cradle of Coaches. More than 100 Miami alumni have worked in collegiate or professional sports roles.
Miami’s football coaches are the focus of an upcoming documentary “Cradle of Coaches,” which premieres in summer 2026 before a wider release in the fall.
