Miami to honor fall graduates at Dec. 12 ceremony
More than 1,000 degrees are expected to be conferred at Miami University’s Fall Commencement on Dec. 12.
The ceremony is 3 p.m. at Millett Hall. Allen McConnell, University Distinguished Professor of Psychology and the 2025 Benjamin Harrison Medallion recipient, will deliver the commencement address.
The Benjamin Harrison Medallion is awarded annually for extraordinary and sustained contributions related to teaching, research, and service. McConnell is an experimental social psychologist whose research examines how relationships with family and pets affect health and well-being, how self-nature representations promote environmental stewardship, and how people form impressions of others.
Since joining Miami in 2000, McConnell’s work has been supported by more than $3 million in federal grants His publications have placed him in the top 2% career impact among social psychologists worldwide (Elsevier Data Repository, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023).
The breakdown of the 1,066 degrees expected to be conferred:
- 710 bachelor degrees
- 253 master’s degrees
- 51 associate degrees
- 27 certificates
- 25 doctorate degrees
Top bachelor degrees include Accountancy (56), Biology (34), Finance (33), and Small Business Management (30). There are degree candidates from 37 states, with the most hailing from Ohio (697), followed by Illinois (46) and California (35).
For those earning bachelor degrees, nearly 14% are graduating with cum laude honors, 11% magna cum laude, and 7% summa cum laude.
Additionally, the university will award three Honorary Doctorate of Letters degrees to:
- Jim Bonaminio ’71, founder and CEO of Jungle Jim’s International Market
- Lee Fisher ’68, retired finance director in the transportation industry
- Rosemary Holoviak Fisher ’69, retired educator from Philadelphia’s Neshaminy School District
Honorary degree recipients are recognized for their distinguished achievements in their respective endeavors and for the contributions their accomplishments make to the life of the university and the betterment of society.
