2025-2026 HASI Foundation Climate Solutions Scholarship winners announced

The Institute for the Environment and Sustainability (IES) is proud to announce the scholarship recipients

The Institute for the Environment and Sustainability (IES) has announced the HASI Foundation Climate Solutions Scholarship recipients for 2025-2026.

The scholarship was established in 2021 in partnership with the HASI Foundation, providing junior and senior IES students the opportunity to explore careers in climate action and sustainability.

The 2025-2026 student recipients, all seniors, are:

  • Althaea Adams-Van Schaik, a Botany major and Sustainability co-major
  • Samantha Besel, a Zoology major and Environmental Science co-major
  • Britain Kandel, an Environmental Earth Science major and Environmental Science co-major
  • Sara McGinnis, a Physics major and Environmental Science co-major
  • April Sanders, a Geology and Geography & Sustainable Development double major and Environmental Science co-major

The HASI Foundation Climate Solutions Scholarship, administered by the Institute for the Environment and Sustainability (IES), provides financial support to high-achieving, sustainability-focused underrepresented or underserved students. Recipients are encouraged to seek mentorship opportunities with HASI employees.

“With HASI’s generosity, these are some of the largest awards we can provide for students in IES,” said Amanda Bentley Brymer, assistant director of IES. “The scholarships provide the high-achieving recipients with financial breathing room, allowing them to explore their career interests, take on a new project, and receive a little extra support to achieve their goals.”

The Office of Student Financial Assistance awards available funds to junior and senior students who are co-majoring or minoring in programs within the Institute for the Environment and Sustainability. Scholarships may be renewable so long as the awarded students maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2 and satisfactory progress toward their degree.
