South entrance of McGuffey Hall closed after roof damage

Building remains open and operational

The entrance on the south side of McGuffey Hall is closed following a significant failure of the entrance’s portico, which resulted in slabs of limestone falling at the feet of the entrance. No one was injured. The building remains open and operational.

The Physical Facilities Department is investigating the cause of the failure. A structural engineer is evaluating the entrance where the failure occurred and the other entrances of the building to ensure they are safe.

The building’s other entrances are not constructed in the same way as the south entrance but are being evaluated and may temporarily close during that safety evaluation process.

At this time, those entering and exiting McGuffey Hall are asked to use other points of entry and exit and avoid the south entrance.

Building points of contact in McGuffey Hall have been notified of the damage and the entrance’s closure at this time.
