Miami University will host three career and internship fairs in three days this September, drawing 250-plus organizations to campus.

“Our career fairs are one of our most powerful engagement opportunities,” said Geoff Falen, executive director of the Center for Career Exploration and Success. “They allow students to explore career paths, make new connections, and potentially land a job, internship, co-op, or volunteer opportunity. We’re proud our employer partners represent such a wide range of fields, including corporations, government organizations, nonprofits, and sports teams. There truly is something for everyone.”

The Fall Career and Internship Fair leads off the trio of signature networking events. Designed for students of all majors and class years, it will be held on Sept. 15 from 1-5 p.m. in Millett Hall. Sample employers include Cardinal Health, Dauch, GE Aerospace, Green Umbrella, JPMorganChase, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, PepsiCo, Progressive Insurance, The Sherwin-Williams Company, and Victoria’s Secret & Co.

Millett Hall will host the STEM Career and Internship Fair the next day, also from 1-5 p.m. Organizations such as Avery Dennison, Johnson & Johnson, Medpace, the National Air and Space Intelligence Center, and Swagelok will recruit students with a background in science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics.

The last event of the three-day period is the Sport Career Exploration and Networking Expo. Set for Sept. 17 from 2-4:30 p.m. in the Shriver Center’s John Dolibois Room, it is meant for students interested in sport management/business, coaching, athletic training, sport communication/media, and/or sport analytics. The Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Indianapolis Motor Speedway are among the organizations scheduled to attend.

To help students make the most of these opportunities, the Center for Career Exploration and Success will host a Career Fair Pop-Up Shop from Sept. 8-11 in the Armstrong Atrium. Between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. (3 p.m. Sept. 11), students can receive feedback on their resumes and elevator pitches, review networking and interviewing strategies, and learn how to research attending employers. Employer partners and Miami alumni will be on hand throughout the week to help students practice networking in a low-stakes environment

“Preparation is key,” said Beth Zink, director of career development. “Students who invest the time in crafting their resume and practicing their elevator pitch are the ones who stand out on the day of the career fair. It’s as important to research the employers who will be in attendance. If you’re interested in an organization, take the time to read its Handshake profile or visit its website. This will help make your answer to the question, ‘Why are you interested in us?’ much more meaningful and memorable.”
