Miami’s human resources exploring creation of Employee Resource Groups
Employee-led communities foster connection, collaboration

In support of the Miami University Human Capital Strategic Plan, the Office of Human Resources Management (OHRM) is exploring the creation of Employee Resource Groups (ERGS) in response to interest and inquiries from the faculty and staff community. ERGS are voluntary employee-led communities that foster connection, collaboration, professional growth, and a strong sense of belonging while supporting the university's commitment to an engaged and thriving workplace.
As OHRM begins this exploration, potential areas of interest may include accessibility and disability, veterans and military-connected employees, and early career employees. These are intended as starting points, and OHRM welcomes ideas for other communities that would enhance the employee experience across Miami University.
Faculty and staff are invited to help shape this initiative by sharing their interest in participating whether that involvement includes completing interest surveys or serving on a small planning team, these insights will help determine which groups are established and how they can best support our community. Together, this can create meaningful opportunities for connection, build community and engagement, and professional growth for employees across the university.
Participation is open to all faculty and staff. At this stage, OHRM is looking for employees who are interested in participating, helping shape the direction of these groups, or potentially serving in a leadership role. Prior ERG leadership experience is not required.
Each group will ultimately be shaped by the employees who participate. OHRM will provide support and guidance as the groups are established, but the priorities, programming, and activities of each ERG will grow from the interests and needs of its members. Leadership roles may include, but are not limited to, the following: serving as president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, or as a sub-committee chair to help coordinate events or communications. While each group will determine its own structure, it is recommended that one individual from each group be identified to liaise with OHRM.
Anyone interested in participating, helping launch an ERG, or simply learning more before deciding is encouraged to complete the Employee Resource Group Interest Survey by Nov. 20. Planning meetings will begin in December, with ERGs launching during spring semester.
