Want to know how wide receiver Scoop Smith got his nickname? Hear him tell the story on “RedHawk Rewind.”

Curious what it’s like to be in the Rowing Club? Feel like you’re riding along with the coxswain in “Sounds of College Life,” an immersive narrative podcast.

Miami University has more than a dozen podcasts, ranging from President Gregory Crawford’s “In Such a Place” to student-hosted “Major Insight” and “Career Convos,” as well as the more academic “Stats + Stories” and athlete-focused “RedHawk Rewind.”

Three of the podcasts — on-demand audio or video episodes that can be streamed or downloaded from the internet — are recorded in Bachelor Hall’s new recording studio: “In Such a Place,” “Major Insight,” and “Stats + Stories.”

Podcasts have exploded in popularity in recent years. More than half of U.S. adults (54%) say they have listened to a podcast in the past 12 months, Pew Research Center reported in August 2025. Younger people are more likely to tune into them, with 67% of those 18-29 saying they’ve listened to a podcast in the past year, according to Pew.

Rosemary Pennington, chair of Media, Journalism, and Film (MJF) and professor of Journalism, said MJF is working to develop a podcasting credential.

“It would consist of approximately three courses and would be designed to serve the needs of not only our students but also the larger Miami community. Down the road, it could be something we market to non-Miami students, but it's still in the early stages of development,” said Pennington, who co-hosts “Stats + Stories.”
