Purchase of Misbranded and Cultivated-Protein Food Products

Purpose

This policy establishes institutional requirements to ensure compliance with Ohio law governing the labeling, purchase, and use of alternative protein, imitation meat, and imitation egg products, consistent with Ohio House Bill 10 and section 3345.68 of the Ohio Revised Code and other related provisions.

Miami University is committed to ensuring food sold or served on campus is accurately labeled and that university purchasing practices meet state requirements.

Policy

In accordance with the Ohio Revised Code, the university shall prohibit the purchase of food that is either of the following:

  1. Misbranded as a meat product or an egg product as defined in section 602 of the Ohio Revised Code; or
  2. A cultivated-protein food product as defined in section 601 of the Ohio Revised Code.

Exception

This policy does not apply to the purchase of food products for research purposes.
