Policy
To be eligible for appointment to the rank of Professor Emeritus/Emerita of Miami University, a person must: have been granted tenure or continuing contract; have been a full time member of the faculty for at least ten (10) years; have retired from Miami University; and, be recommended by the President to and approved by the Board of Trustees. Regardless of rank at retirement, the designation will be as appropriate, “Professor Emeritus/a,” "Teaching Professor Emeritus/a," "Lecturer Emeritus/a," or “Clinical Professor/Lecturer Emeritus/a,” not, for example, “Associate Professor Emeritus/Emerita.” Emeriti/emeritae status comes after any Retirement with Rehiring appointments.
