MSG Jacob Hill
Biography
Master Sergeant Jacob J. Hill enlisted in the Ohio Army National Guard as a 19D Cavalry Scout in May 2002 and completed One Station Unit Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky in June 2003. In February 2004, he transitioned to Active Duty and was assigned as a Driver/Dismount with 3rd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division Brigade Reconnaissance Troop in Vilseck, Germany, deploying in support of OIF 1/OIF 2 from June 2004 to February 2005.
He subsequently PCS’d to Fort Knox, Kentucky, serving as Gunner and Squad Leader with 1st Squadron, 16th Cavalry Regiment, before moving to Fort Lewis, Washington, where he served as Gunner, Team Leader, and Section Leader with Charlie Troop and HHT, 8th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment. During this assignment, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of OEF 9-10 and later OEF 12-13, serving as the Squadron PSD NCOIC.
In 2014, MSG Hill was assigned as a Detail Recruiter in Columbus, Ohio, where he also served as Assistant Station Commander for the Westerville Recruiting Center. In 2017, he PCS’d to Fort Drum, New York, serving as Platoon Sergeant in Bravo Troop, 1st Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment, and deployed in support of Operation Joint Guardian (KFOR 25) in October 2018. He later PCS’d to Fort Benning, Georgia, serving as Chief Instructor, 2nd Squadron, 15th Cavalry Regiment, before assuming responsibility of Empire Troop, 5th Squadron, 15th Cavalry Regiment.
Most recently, MSG Hill served as Troop First Sergeant with 5th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Riley, Kansas, from September 2022 to April 2024. During this period, he deployed in support of Operation Assure, Deter, and Reinforce in November 2022, serving as both Tank Company First Sergeant and Headquarters Company First Sergeant.
MSG Hill’s military education includes the Cavalry Leaders Course, Common Faculty Development Instructor Course, Army Recruiter Course, NCOES through the Master Leaders Course, Equal Opportunity Leaders Course, and Stryker Vehicle Commanders Course.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medals, Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medals, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two stars, Iraq Campaign Medal with one star, two Valorous Unit Citations, the Presidential Unit Citation, Joint Meritorious Unit Citation, and the Combat Action Badge.
