Christe McKittrick
Christe L. McKittrick is an associate clinical faculty member in the department of Media, Journalism & Film. She teaches primarily Advanced Strategic Communication Writing, Media Law and Ethics, and Public Speaking. She holds a Juris Doctorate of Law and double Bachelor of Science degrees with distinction in Agricultural Economics and Journalism – all from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
McKittrick is the Chief Departmental Advisor overseeing student advising for some 600 STC majors and 11 STC faculty advisors. She serves as chair and member of the Office of Community Standards Hearing Board for sexual misconduct complaints arising under the U.S. Department of Education’s Title IX regulations and Miami’s Code of Student Conduct. A student organization advisor, she mentors the Public Relations Student Society of America chapter, the Men’s Club Lacrosse team and the Knotty Knitters, a charity fiber arts club.
She developed and leads the successful Inside Chicago program, a career-focused study away workshop that annually networks Miami students with over 50 media, marketing and communication professionals and organizations. The program has led to multiple student internships and entry level positions for participants. McKittrick serves as the STC Internship Director mentoring over 50 for-credit intern placements annually.
Professionally, McKittrick practiced law for 8 years specializing in Labor and Employment law. She prosecuted and won one of Wisconsin’s highest-ranking cases in Fair Employment, setting precedent for workplace accommodation of disabled workers. She was the Public Affairs Director for a 700-employee state agency serving as a top spokesperson in areas of environmental, consumer protection, trade and agricultural policy and regulation.
Before coming to Miami University in 2008, she was the News and Promotions Director for two non-commercial radio stations, which were part of the Northwestern Radio Network family of 17 stations. She helped coordinate the station’s first $1 million annual fund raiser.
A media consultant, professional speaker and trainer, McKittrick is also a freelance and fiction writer. She speaks often to student and business groups on leadership, interpersonal communication and group peak performance. She has 4 children (2 Miami alums and 1 current student), two grandchildren and a fluffy cocker spaniel.
