Joe Sampson
Joe Sampson began teaching journalism courses at his alma mater in 2001. Sampson teaches audio and video writing and reporting courses, along with the Miami Plan course “Journalism and American Life” and sports writing and reporting.
His students have received national and regional awards for their work from the Society of Professional Journalists and Broadcast Educators Association.
In the Journalism Program, Sampson serves as internship coordinator as well as overseeing the scholarship and prize committee.
He is a RIAS Berlin Commission fellow, having traveled to Europe in 2018, 2019 and 2023 on journalism exchange programs.
Prior to teaching, Sampson spent 12 years working in the Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio, markets as a television news reporter, producer and manager. He has also worked as a radio announcer at WOXY 97.7 and WMUB 88.5 FM radio.
His family – wife, Alison (a 1996 Miami grad), and two children, Maggie and Andrew - live in Cincinnati.
