Matthew Crum
Matthew Crum is Production & Technology Manager and Instructor in the Department of Media, Journalism, and Film at Miami University. Since 2020, he has overseen the design and installation of MJF’s studios and editing suites, developed the department’s equipment checkout system, and managed its production technology budget. He also maintains the department’s film and video equipment and supports faculty and students in studio and field production.
Crum brings more than two decades of experience in media production, instructional technology, and AV systems design. Before joining Miami, he served as Director of Instructional and Music Technology at the University of Louisville’s School of Music, where he led multimedia initiatives ranging from live performance production to the creation of digital media platforms. He designed and implemented advanced classroom control systems, a Dante-based recording infrastructure, and a multi-camera production control room, while managing budgets and supervising technology staff.
Earlier in his career, Crum worked at Kentucky Educational Television as an Interactive Multimedia Specialist, producing instructional and promotional content, engineering HD encoding systems, and supporting the station’s digital transition. He has also held positions at Eastern Kentucky University and Ashland Community College, while maintaining a freelance career in videography, editing, and web/media development.
His expertise spans film and video production, audio networking, live event support, instructional design, and digital media strategy. He is proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud, Final Cut Pro, AVID Pro Tools, Dante audio networking, Ross Video, Wirecast, and BrightSign platforms. At Miami, Crum combines technical knowledge with hands-on teaching, preparing students to work with the evolving technologies of media and film production.
