Dr. Neringa Klumbytė is a Professor of Anthropology and European Studies. She is the Director of the Ukraine/Lithuania program at the Havighurst Center for Eastern European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies. Her research has explored authoritarianism and violence in 20th and 21st centuries; ideologies of sovereignty; geopolitics of (in)security; Holocaust and genocide; memory and trauma; human rights and historical justice;political participation; propaganda and censorship; political satire and humor; food, consumption, and marketing. She is the author of Authoritarian Laughter: Political Humor and Soviet Dystopia in Lithuania (Cornell UP, 2022),the winner of the British Association for Slavonic and East European Studies Women’s Forum prize. Her current research focuses on occupied territories in Ukraine. She has been recognized as Miami University College of Arts and Science Distinguished Educator. She is the President for the Society for the Anthropology of Europe, American Anthropological Association (2026-2028).
