This background and experience have informed her ultimate goal as an educator to broaden her students' perspectives, inspire their innovative talents, guide them toward growth, and lead each individual to reach their full potential.
Yuen is pursuing her doctorate in Cultural Heritage Informatics at Kent State University. Her dissertation focuses on enriching fashion students’ cultural awareness to avoid the repetition of cultural appropriation in the fashion industry through a series of pedagogical strategies and museum cultural collections. She is expected to graduate in the Summer of 2025. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Theater Studies, with a concentration in costume design, and a Master of Fashion Industry Studies from Kent State University in 2021.
Before she joined Miami University, she taught as an Adjunct faculty member and teaching assistant at Kent State University for six years, across various disciplines, including theater studies, fashion studio, and information studies. She also worked as a fashion designer in Hong Kong for over 10 years before pursuing her studies in the United States. One of her goals is to connect fashion students with the industry by educating young designers through a comprehensive teaching approach that instills and promotes curiosity, self-confidence, and effective communication, gradually guiding them to understand their study goals for future career success.
Yuen embraces constructivism in constructing personal knowledge through interdisciplinary learning, incorporating fashion, costume, information technology, museum studies, and user experience, to make unique contributions to the fields of fashion and museums. Her research focuses on enriching the learning experience and global view of fashion students through the university museum collection.
